Cam-shafts and regulators of a valvate gap

  • Do not turn cam-shafts or do not start the engine (i.e. valves should not work) about half an hour after repeatedly installed hydraulic regulators of a valvate gap and cam-shafts. As time is required in order that valves rose into place, start of the engine within half an hour after repeated installation can lead to the wrong gearing between valves or between valves and the piston.
  • If air got to the regulator of a valvate gap, the valve can make the tapping sound at turning on of the engine after installation of the regulator of a valvate gap. In that case start the engine for half an hour with a speed of 2,000 - 3,000 revolutions per minute, and then air will be blown and the knock will stop. If the sound of percussion not to stop, perhaps, the regulator of a valvate gap faulty. If it faulty, replace it. If it is not possible to define the faulty regulator aurally among 16 regulators, carry out the following inspection.
      About a stanovita the engine also uncover a cylinder head. Press the regulator a hand (having made effort less than 20 kg or 44 pounds), at the same time the crest of a cam should not be on the checked regulator, and check whether there is a gap between a cam and the regulator. If is, the regulator is faulty and has to be replaced.

Diagnostics of noise of the regulator of valvate gaps

Noise of the regulator of valvate gaps can be caused by the air which got to regulators of valvate gaps in the following cases:

    The vehicle staid about 24 hours and more. Replaced engine oil. Replaced or repeatedly installed the hydraulic regulator of a gap. Capital repairs of the engine.

If you suspect that noise goes from regulators of valvate gaps, carry out the following inspection.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Check engine oil.
      Oil level in an oil pan
    If oil level low, add oil to a mark of full gas station in the oil probe.
      Quality of oil
    If color of oil changed or quality of oil worsened, replace it. Address the Section Engine in the Head Maintenance and lubricant to receive recommendations about use of a certain type of oil.
      Oil leaks
    If leak is found, eliminate it. If pressure does not meet standard, result it in norm. Turn on the engine for half an hour with a speed of 2000 - 3000 revolutions per minute, and then air will be blown, and a sound of percussion to stop. If percussion did not stop, possibly, the hydraulic regulator of a valvate gap is faulty. If it is not serviceable, replace it. If it is not possible to determine the faulty regulator by knock among 16 regulators, check the following.
      Stop the engine and uncover a cylinder head. Press the regulator a hand (with effort less than 20 kg or 44 pounds), at the same time the crest of a cam should not be on the checked regulator, and check whether there is a gap between a cam and the regulator. If is, the regulator is faulty and has to be replaced.

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Disconnect a negative cable from the accumulator. Merge engine oil. Merge antifreeze. Remove an oil pan and a grid of the oil pump, having addressed the Section Oil pan and a grid of the oil pump in this Chapter. Uncover a cylinder head, having addressed the Section Cylinder Head Cover in this Chapter. Uncover a synchronization chain, having addressed the Section Synchronization Chain Cover in this Chapter. Remove the second chain of synchronization, having addressed the Section the Second chain of synchronization and a natyazhitel of a chain in this Chapter. Remove the sensor of provision of a cam-shaft, having addressed the Head Sistema of ignition for the J20 engine.
    After you remove the second chain of synchronization, establish a key on the crankshaft, having turned the crankshaft. It is necessary to prevent gearing between valves and the piston.
    Untwist cam-shaft case bolts in that order as it is specified in the drawing, and take out them.
    Remove cam-shaft cases. Remove cam-shafts. Remove regulators of a valvate gap (2).
    Never disassemble the hydraulic regulator of a valvate gap.
  • You do not press on the regulator case, the oil which is in the camera under high pressure will follow.
  • Lower the taken-out regulator in pure engine oil (1) and you store it there until you establish it repeatedly to prevent oil leak. If you leave it on air, put it in its kovsheobrazny case the face down. Do not put it sideways or in the kovsheobrazny case face up.

And — do not use force.

With the help a micromeasure measure cam height. If the measured height is lower than norm, replace a cam-shaft.

Wear of a cam-shaft

Put a cam-shaft between two V-shaped blocks, and measure its wear by means of the dial indicator. If the measured wear exceeds the norms provided below, replace a cam-shaft. Wear of a cam-shaft: limit: 0.10 mm (0.0039 inches).

Wear of necks of a cam-shaft

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Check necks of a cam-shaft and cases of a cam-shaft regarding an ulceration, scratches, wear or damage. If any malfunctions are found, replace a cam-shaft or a head of the cylinder with a case. Never replace a cylinder head without replacement of cases.
    Check a gap by means of plaster solution. It becomes as follows.
      Clean cases and necks of a cam-shaft. Make sure that all regulators of a valvate gap are removed and establish a cam-shaft on a cylinder head. Put a part of plaster solution on the full width of a neck of a cam-shaft (parallel to a cam-shaft). Establish a cam-shaft case.
      Twirl cam-shaft case bolts in the small portions until they are fastened with the specified rotating moment. The rotating inhaling moment: A bolt of a case of a cam-shaft (a) — 11 N • m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 pound on foot).

Do not rotate a cam-shaft with plaster solution inside.


    Remove a case and by means of a ruler (2) on the surface of plaster solution (1) measure width of plaster solution in the widest place.
      Cam-shaft neck gap:
        norm: 0.045 – 0.099 mm (0.0018 – 0.0038 inches) limit: 0.12 mm (0.0047 inches)
    If the measured gap of a neck of a cam-shaft goes beyond norm, measure the internal diameter of a neck and external diameter of a neck of a cam-shaft. Replace a cam-shaft or knot of a head of the cylinder, depending on where a deviation from technical characteristics more.

Wear of the hydraulic regulator of a valvate gap

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Check the regulator for existence of ulcerations, scratches or damage. If any defect is found, replace it.
    Measure the internal diameter of a head of the cylinder and external diameter of the regulator to define a gap between a head of the cylinder and the regulator. If the gap exceeds norm limits, replace the regulator or a head of the cylinder.

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

    Before installing the regulator of a valvate gap on a head of the cylinder (1), fill a lubricant flute of a head of the cylinder with engine oil according to the following procedure.
    Fill in engine oil through oil openings (2) and check that oil followed from oil openings by the sliding part of the regulator of valvate gaps. Carry out this inspection on the inlet and final parties.
    Install regulators of valvate gaps on a cylinder head. Apply engine oil around the regulator of a valvate gap and then establish it on a cylinder head.
    Compare a key (1) on the crankshaft with a mark of synchronization (2).
    Establish cam-shafts. Oil the sliding surfaces of each cam-shaft and necks of a cam-shaft, then establish them, having compared compliance marks in a head of the cylinder and pins in cam-shafts.

Establish a cam-shaft in such direction that its end with a groove for the sensor of provision of a cam-shaft came to the party of release.

    Establish pins of a case of a cam-shaft (3). Apply sealant "A" on the condensed surface of a case of a camshaft of final valves (2). "And": sealant 99000-31250.

    Check the provision of cases of a cam-shaft. On each case there are printed marks indicating situation and the direction for installation. Establish cases as it is specified by these marks.

    Having oiled bolts of cases, twirl them at first temporarily. Then fasten them one after another. Twist bolts gradually and evenly, and repeat the sequence of twisting three or four times before they are fastened to the specified rotating inhaling moment. The rotating inhaling moment: bolt of a case of a cam-shaft (and): 11 N • m (1.1 kg-m, 8.0 pound on foot).

    Install the sensor of provision of a cam-shaft, having addressed to the Head Sistema of ignition for the J20 engine. Establish the second chain of synchronization, having addressed the Section the Second chain of synchronization and a natyazhitel of a chain in this Chapter. Establish a synchronization chain cover, having addressed the Section Synchronization Chain Cover in this Chapter. Establish a cylinder head cover, having addressed the Section Cylinder Head Cover in this Chapter. Establish an oil pan and a grid of the oil pump, having addressed the Section Oil pan and a grid of the oil pump in this Chapter. Install the cooling system and other parts. Fill in the cooling system with antifreeze, forward differential gearbox oil, the engine engine oil and system of steering with strengthening by special liquid. Check whether there is no leak of antifreeze, special liquid for system of steering, leak of exhaust gas and engine oil on each connection. Check installation of a corner of an advancing of ignition and if it is necessary adjust, having addressed the Section Check and adjustment of time of an advancing of ignition in the Head Sistema of ignition for the J20 engine.
