Thermostat

Removal

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Merge the cooling system and twirl a drain stopper. Uncover the thermostat (1). Remove the thermostat.
G16 engine.

J20 engine.

Check

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

Make sure that a final pneumatic valve (1) of the thermostat pure. If this valve is littered, the engine will overheat.
Check that in a saddle of the valve there were no foreign particles that will prevent the valve to sit strongly. Check consolidation (2) thermostats and ring-shaped consolidation regarding breakage, destruction or any other damage. Check the thermostat as follows:
Ship the thermostat (1) in water, and gradually heat water. Make sure that the valve begins to open at a certain temperature. If the valve begins to open at a temperature much below or above a certain temperature, the thermostat has to be replaced with new. Such device if to reuse it, will lead to overcooling or overheating.

Temperature at which the valve begins to open

J20 engine: 82 ±2 °C (179 ± 3.6 °F)

G16 engine: 88 ± 2 °C (190 ± 3.6 °F)

Temperature at which the valve completely opens

J20 engine: 95 °C (203 °F)

G16 engine: 100 °C (212 °F)

Height of raising of the valve

J20 engine: more, than on 8 mm (0.315 inches) at 95 °C (203 °F)

G16 engine: more, than on 8 mm (0.315 inches) at 100 °C (212 °F)

Installation

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

At installation of the thermostat (1) and ring-shaped consolidation on the thermostat case, establish it so that:
The final pneumatic valve (2) came to top (G16 engine). The final pneumatic valve (2) came to a mark of comparison (3) and in recession of a casing of the thermostat (J20 engine).
Establish a thermostat cover on an inlet collector (G16 engine), the water pump (J20 engine). Fill the cooling system. Address Sections Cooling liquid and Washing and filling of the cooling system in this Chapter. Connect a negative cable to the accumulator. After installation check each detail for a leakage.
