Insufficiently charged battery
The slow provorachivaniye of the engine or the light surface of the indicator with a red point can demonstrate that the battery is insufficiently charged even if the lamp index works normally.
The following below the procedure can be carried out also by means of the voltmeter or the ampermeter.
|
Make sure that this state is not result of the fact that the service equipment was left for the long period of time.
Check a tension of a driving belt.
If you suspect that the battery, see the Section Battery is faulty.
Examine conducting on existence of defects. Make sure that all connections (connections of a cable for connection of the battery, the starting engine and a cable of grounding of ignition) strong and pure.
Connect the voltmeter and the ampermeter.
Voltmeter
Establish between the plug of the generator (B) and the plug of grounding.
Ampermeter
Establish between the plug of the generator (B) and positive (+) the battery plug.
|
Use completely charged battery. |
Measure the current and tension.
|
1 — the generator 2 — the ampermeter 3 — the voltmeter 4 — the battery 5 — a charge (loading) 6 — the switch
|
|
|
Check idling
|
Start the engine with a speed up to 2000 rpm and read out indications.
Usual current: at most 10 A
Usual tension:
14.4 – 15.0 V (at a temperature of 20 °C, 85 °F), type 60 A
14.1 – 15.2 V (at a temperature of 20 °C, 68 °F), type 70 A and 85 A
|
Switch off all service equipment (janitors, a heater etc.). |
|
If tension and temperature of the case of the regulator vary, then this case demands consideration. |
High voltage
If tension is more than usual, check grounding of brushes.
If brushes are not grounded, replace the IC regulator.
Low voltage
Type 60 A
If tension normal or is lower than norm, increase engine speed to 2000 – 2500 rpm right after start of the engine and immediately measure the maximum indicators of the ampermeter.
If current makes less than 42 A, repair or replace the generator.
Type 70 A and 80 A
If tension of usual, carry out the following check.
|
Ground the plug F and start the engine, then measure tension in the plug B.
|
Tension is higher than usual. It is considered that the generator in good shape, but the IC regulator is damaged. Replace the IC regulator.
Tension is lower than usual. The generator is faulty, check the generator.
|
|
Check of tension (only 70 A and 80 A)
|
Start the engine with a speed of 2000 rpm and turn head headlights and the motor of a heater.
Measure current. If it makes less than 20 A (type 70 A) or 30 A (80 A), repair or replace the generator.
