System of ignition for the J20 engine

General description

For the vehicles equipped with additional system of restriction of the movement "air bag" (the safety airbag):

  • Service of components of the airbag of safety ("air bag") and near them or works with an electrical wiring have to be performed only by the authorized dealer of SUZUKI. Non-compliance with precautionary measures can lead to inadvertent operation of system or put system out of action. Any of these two conditions can lead to a serious trauma.
  • Works on maintenance should be begun not earlier than in 90 seconds after the ignition switch is transferred to situation "LOCK/ZAMOK" and the negative cable is disconnected from the battery. Otherwise the system can be activated by reserve energy of the module of sensors and diagnostics.

This system of ignition is a system of direct ignition. It consists of parts as it is described below and has system of electronic control of ignition.

    ECM (or PCM)

Determines a condition of the engine by signals from sensors, defines the most suitable time of an advancing of ignition and time when electricity has to be given on primary winding, and sends a signal to igniter (in the ignition coil).

Assembly of the coil of ignition (including igniter and the coil of ignition)

The coil of ignition has the built-in igniter which includes and disconnects primary current of the coil of ignition according to a signal with ECM (or PCM). When primary current of the coil of ignition is disconnected, high voltage is induced in a secondary electrical wiring. One coil of ignition is responsible for ignition only in one cylinder.

Spark plug and noise suppressor CMP sensor, TP sensor, ECT sensor and MAF sensor

This system of ignition has no distributor and wires of high voltage, but each cylinder has the ignition coil, and the secondary tension appearing in the ignition coil moves on a spark plug directly. Also a signal(s) go from a CMP sensor to ECM (or PCM). To operate each coil of ignition it is independent through igniter (in assembly of the coil of ignition).
